Experience with Wine
My first experience that I can remember with wine was watching my older sister spit it out at the dinner table while trying a sip for the first time. I was young at the time, but I remember being scared of the day when I was supposed to try it at my Holy Communion. The worst thing that could happen to me would be to spit out red wine all over my white satin dress. Luckily enough, that didn't happen.
Since then, I have had a fairly good amount of experience with wine. I began drinking wine at the dinner table with my parents when I was a senior in high school. Of course it was none other than a glass of Moscato, or as my mom calls it: baby wine, because it was the only wine I actually liked. Go figure. Once I got to college I discovered the art of drinking wine right out of the bag, which was definitely a new experience for me, but my roommate was with me every step of the way.
After my sophomore year of college, I studied abroad in the beautiful city of Vichy, France which is where I believe I truly began to appreciate wine. It was there that I discovered my love for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which at this point is still my go-to choice for any meal pairing. While I was in France we toured wineries where I learned a little about the growing of the grapes and the production of wine.
As I mentioned, my favorite type of wine is a Sauvignon Blanc. However, I will drink almost any white wine, with the exception of Moscato. When I returned from France I realized my taste had changed and I didn't like wine to be that sweet. As for reds, I am currently not a huge fan of red wine although I drink it when necessary. The only red wine I truly do not care for is Pinot Noir. I am hoping to find a go-to red wine that I like by the end of this course.
